A manufacturer of automotive components required multiple turnkey leak test systems for validating the integrity of airbag inflators. The customer desired a dual-chamber system that could produce fast cycle times and accommodate multiple part models and configurations. Specific requirements include:

  • Production Rate:  6000 parts in 20 hour day
  • Cycle Time:  12 seconds per part, including load and unload
  • Test Part Sizes:   3 models, 2 configurations (6 variations total)

We engineered and tested a turnkey dual-chamber custom helium leak test system with custom tooled leak test chambers and cycle times that exceeded customer requirements. 

  • Two, stainless steel custom tooled leak test chambers with custom inserts to accommodate different part models and configurations
  • Automated chamber lid opening and closing with safety light curtain
  • 2 each 2D bar code scanners hard mounted for easy operator scanning
  • Reject bin to collect parts that fail the leak test
  • Fast cycle times of 6000 parts per day

Helium hard vacuum chamber, pre-pressurized and sealed part
Leak Rate:
1 x 10-8 atmcc/sec helium
Throughput:
1 part every 9.8 seconds
Tracer gas:
Helium 3%
Cycle Time:
less than 12 seconds per part, including load and unload

2 chambers, each chamber has one cavity and custom inserts to accommodate multiple part models
